Abstract

This disclosure provides wireless devices, methods, and apparatuses for congestion control. The apparatus receives, at a modem or an operating system, via an application programming interface (API) accessible by an application, a subscription of the application to an explicit congestion notification (ECN) marking report service for an IP flow. The apparatus provides, to the application via the API, a congestion report based on IP packets of the IP flow marked with an ECN field received at the modem. The modem or the operating system may receive via the API, an indication of an ECN codepoint to be applied to an IP flow; identify one or more packets corresponding to the IP flow at a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer; and add the ECN codepoint to an IP header of the one or more packets at the PDCP layer prior to transmission via a wireless protocol.
