Abstract
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, determining, based on an identifier obtained from in the data traffic, that the wireless device is an authorized device for the customer premise; routing the data traffic of the wireless device to customer infrastructure in response to the wireless device being the authorized device; and performing a mitigation action on the data traffic in response to determining that the data traffic exceeds or is predicted to exceed a data limit of a service plan of the customer premise for the wireless device. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Claims20
A device, comprising:
- a processing system including a processor;
- and
- a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:
- determining, based on an identifier obtained from the data traffic, that the wireless device is an authorized device for the customer premise;
- routing the data traffic of the wireless device to customer infrastructure in response to the wireless device being the authorized device;
- and
- performing a mitigation action on the data traffic in response to determining that the data traffic exceeds or is predicted to exceed a data limit of a service plan of the customer premise for the wireless device.
A machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:
- detecting data traffic from a wireless device located in a customer premise, wherein the data traffic includes packet header information;
- determining that the wireless device is an authorized device for the customer premise based on an analysis of an identifier of the packet header information;
- determining that a destination address of the packet header information corresponds to customer infrastructure located in the customer premise;
- and
- routing the data traffic to the customer infrastructure in response to determining that the wireless device is the authorized device and responsive to determining that the destination address corresponds to the customer infrastructure.
A method,
- comprising:
- receiving, by a Multi-Edge Computing (MEC) host located in a customer premise, data traffic from a wireless device located in the customer premise;
- extracting, by the MEC host, an identifier of the wireless device and a destination of the data traffic from a packet header of the data traffic;
- determining, by the MEC host, that the destination address corresponds to customer infrastructure located in the customer premise;
- routing, by the MEC host and via a firewall of the MEC host, the data traffic to the customer infrastructure responsive to determining that the wireless device is the authorized device and responsive to determining that the destination address corresponds to the customer infrastructure;
- predicting, by the MEC host, that ongoing data traffic will exceed a data limit before an end of a temporal measurement period;
- throttling, by the MEC host, future data traffic from the wireless device in response to the MEC host responsive to predicting that the ongoing data traffic will exceed the data limit;
- and
- transmitting a warning message to customer equipment associated with the customer premise, wherein the warning message indicates the throttling of the future data traffic.
