Abstract
An example system can include a memory card that is removably and securely coupled to a computing device. In one example, the system can cause operations to be performed to determine that the computing device is authorized to communicate with a particular memory card when the memory card is communicatively coupled to the computing device. If communication is authorized, the operations can include authorizing the computing device to access and manage a digital asset using a key stored on the memory card.
Claims20
A method performed by a computer program executing on a computing device, the method comprising;
- in response to a determination that a removable memory device is physically connected to the computing device,
- causing a communication session to be initiated with the removable memory device that is configured to store:
- (i) a cryptographic key for accessing a cryptographic asset, and
- (ii) first configuration information to authorize pairing of the removable memory device with one or more pre-authorized computing devices;
- comparing the first configuration information stored in the removable memory device with second configuration information that is stored in the computing device;
- in response to a determination, based on said comparing, that the computing device is authorized to communicate with the removable memory device,
- accessing the cryptographic asset using the cryptographic key stored on the removable memory device;
- and
- in response to a determination, based on said comparing, that the computing device is not authorized to communicate with the removable memory device,
- terminating the communication session, and
- initiating transmittal of an electronic communication to another computing device that is known to be associated with an authorized user of the cryptographic asset.
A method comprising:
- establishing, by a computing device via a wireless communication link, a communication session with a memory device that is configured to store:
- (i) a cryptographic key to access a cryptographic asset,
- (ii) a first copy of authentication information, and
- (iii) a timeout setting;
- comparing, by the computing device, the first copy of the authentication information to a second copy of the authentication information that is accessible to the computing device;
- determining, by the computing device, that the computing device is authorized to communicate with the memory device, for a period of time indicated by the timeout setting, based on a comparison of the first and second copies of the authentication information;
- and
- in response to said determining,
- accessing, by the computing device, the cryptographic asset using the cryptographic key stored on the memory device.
A non-transitory medium with instructions stored thereon that, when executed by at least one processor of a computing device, cause the computing device to perform operations comprising:
- receiving an indication that a memory device has been physically coupled to the computing device based on a determination that the memory device has established an electrical connection with the computing device;
- comparing, in response to said receiving, a first copy of authentication information stored in memory of the computing device with a second copy of the authentication information that is stored in the memory device;
- and
- in response to a determination, based on an outcome of said comparing, that the computing device is authorized to communicate with the memory device for a fixed interval of time,
- accessing a cryptographic asset using a cryptographic key that is stored in the memory device.
