A battery module including a plurality of battery cells, a module case having an upper opening, the module case being configured to accommodate the plurality of battery cells, and a top plate coupled to the upper opening of the module case, the top plate including a plurality of venting paths configured to separate a flow of venting gas generated from the plurality of battery cells.

A battery module comprising:
- a plurality of battery cells;
- a module case having an upper opening, the module case being configured to accommodate the plurality of battery cells;
- and
- a top plate coupled to the upper opening of the module case, the top plate including a plurality of venting paths configured to separate a flow of venting gas generated from the plurality of battery cells.
