Electrode for Electrochemical Device and Method for Manufacturing the Same

Abstract

An electrode includes a current collector and a free-standing electrode film present on at least one surface of the current collector. The free-standing electrode film includes an electrode active material and a fibrillated electrode binder. The electrode active material is held together by the fibrillated electrode binder. An adhesive layer including an adhesive binder is between the current collector and the electrode film. The electrode reduces interfacial resistance and maintains a predetermined level of adhesion strength. The electrode is manufactured by forming an adhesive layer on an electrode film and attaching the electrode film to a current collector, thereby improving the adhesion strength between the adhesive layer and the electrode film and reducing the interfacial resistance between the current collector and the electrode. Also provided is an electrochemical device including the same.
