Automated item image processing system and method

A computer comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a non-transitory computer readable medium comprising code, executable by the processor for performing a method comprising:
• receiving image data for an image of a food item;
• identifying at least the food item in the image;
• separating at least the food item from the image to form a food item image;
• modifying the food item image if the food item image is determined to be incomplete;
• creating a candidate image by creating a background for the food item image and then applying the background to the food item image;
• selecting the candidate image;
• and
• displaying the selected candidate image in an application or a website of a service provider computer.

A system comprising:

• an image database;
• an item information database;
• and
• an image analysis computer comprising:
• a processor;
• and
• a non-transitory computer readable medium comprising code, executable by the processor for performing a method comprising:
• receiving image data for an image of a food item from the image database;
• identifying at least the food item in the image;
• separating at least the food item from the image to form a food item image;
• modifying the food item image if the food item image is determined to be incomplete;
• creating a candidate image by creating a background for the food item image and then applying the background to the food item image;
• selecting the candidate image;
• and
• displaying the selected candidate image in an application or a website of a service provider computer.
