A device configured to implement a sparse convolutional neural network (CNN) with a block multiply accumulation based (BMA-based) convolution kernel on blocks of image data or input feature maps. The CNN includes filter coefficients. The device includes processing circuitry, a first memory to store image data, and a second memory to store instructions for the processing circuitry to implement the CNN with a BMA-based convolution kernel. The processing circuitry scans the CNN to identify which filter coefficients are above a threshold value, the filter coefficients above the threshold value representing a group of executable filter coefficients; and for each block of image data of a subset of the plurality of blocks of image data, applies BMA operations on the block of image data using each executable filter coefficient that corresponds to the block of image data to generate a corresponding output. BMA operations are skipped for each filter coefficient of the CNN below the threshold value.
A device comprising:
A device comprising:
A non-transitory device-readable medium storing software instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, implement a multi-layer convolutional neural network (CNN) with a block multiply accumulation based (BMA-based) convolution kernel on blocks of an input feature map, wherein, to implement the multi-layer CNN, the processor is configured to:
The non-transitory device-readable medium of 16, wherein the scan of the layer to identify which filter coefficients of the layer are above a threshold value includes to store, for each executable filter coefficient of the layer, input and output block pointers in a memory in association with the executable filter coefficient of the layer.
