Techniques for validating a credential holder's credentials (e.g., employment status, academic status), in response to a request by a requestor (e.g., potential customer, employer, business partner) are disclosed. A validation application, running on a first device under control of a requestor, receives a request to validate one or more credentials of a credential holder. Responsive to the request, the validation application generates a unique link for presenting to the credential holder, for submitting the one or more credentials of the credential holder. The validation application presents the unique link in a graphical user interface of the first device. The credential holder scans the unique link provided by the requestor. The unique link directs the credential holder to an interface for submitting validatable credentials to a mediator service. The first device receives, from the mediator service, a validation response associated with the one or more credentials submitted by the credential holder.
