Systems and methods are provided herein for determining the provenance of objects (e.g., trading cards within tournament card decks of a trading card game). The method includes receiving a plurality of objects (e.g., collectible playing cards associated with gameplay at a tournament event). A predefined portion (e.g., a substrate or printed ink) of each object is scanned (e.g., during the tournament event or during a trade) to determine a respective digital fingerprint. The digital fingerprints are linked between a subset of objects (e.g., cards associated with a common card deck, cards within the same trade) to generate an authenticated object set. The object set is registered in a database. The authenticated object set can be associated with supplemental information such as media content, tournament history, and so forth.
