Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a method and system for generating answers based on information retrieval, the method and system being capable of retrieving external knowledge and generating answers to user queries. In an embodiment, a computerized method for generating answers based on information retrieval comprises receiving a user query from a user terminal, specifying a plurality of candidate documents associated with the user query based on preset criteria, each candidate document including at least one passage, determining relevance to the user query on a passage-by-passage basis for each passage included in the plurality of candidate documents, specifying a relevant document that is associated with the user query among the plurality of candidate documents based on the relevance to the user query determined for each passage included in the plurality of candidate documents, and generating an answer to the user query using the relevant document.
