Abstract
Metadata is accessed from a remote cloud-based metadata store that associates data stored by storage systems with physical locations. Based on the metadata, a subset of the data associated with an application is identified. A physical location that stores the subset of the data is determined from the physical locations. Execution of the application is then caused at the physical location, enabling placement of the application based on the location of data associated with the application.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- accessing, from a remote cloud-based metadata store, metadata associating data stored by a plurality of storage systems with a plurality of physical locations;
- identifying, based on the metadata, a subset of the data associated with an application;
- determining a physical location of the plurality of physical locations that stores the subset of the data;
- and
- causing execution of the application at the physical location.
A system comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- a processing device, operatively coupled to the memory, the processing device configured to:
- access, from a remote cloud-based metadata store, metadata associating data stored by a plurality of storage systems with a plurality of physical locations;
- identify, based on the metadata, a subset of the data associated with an application;
- determine a physical location of the plurality of physical locations that stores the subset of the data;
- and
- cause execution of the application at the physical location.
A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing instructions which, when executed, cause a processing device to:
- access, from a remote cloud-based metadata store, metadata associating data stored by a plurality of storage systems with a plurality of physical locations;
- identify, based on the metadata, a subset of the data associated with an application;
- determine a physical location of the plurality of physical locations that stores the subset of the data;
- and
- cause execution of the application at the physical location.
