Database systems and constraint management methods with instance variable binding

A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium that provides instructions that, when executed by a processor, are configurable to cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

• identifying a virtual container defining a constraint for a plurality of records at a database system based on one or more fields of the plurality of records, the plurality of records including a first database record of a first object type and a second database record of a second object type different from the first object type;
• and
• after an operation with respect to the first database record at the database system:
• updating a second virtual container corresponding to the first database record having a first variable value based on the one or more fields of the first database record to apply the constraint associated with the virtual container to a third virtual container corresponding to the second database record having a second variable value based on the one or more fields of the second database record to identify the first database record of the plurality of records satisfying the constraint with respect to the second database record based on a relationship between the first variable value and the second variable value, resulting in a bound value for an instance variable of the second virtual container corresponding to the first database record satisfying the constraint;
• and
• in response to determining the bound value for the instance variable satisfies a condition of the constraint:
• automatically updating a field of the first database record satisfying the constraint to include information identifying the constraint violated by the first database record;
• and
• automatically updating, by the database system, a graphical user interface (GUI) display at a client application at a client device over a network to include a graphical indication of the constraint violated by the first database record.
