Method for error handling during the navigation of a mobile device

A method for error handling during navigation of a mobile device, wherein the mobile device moves or is intended to move in an environment, while using SLAM-based localization, the method comprising the following steps:

• repeatedly carrying out localization processes, wherein each of the localization processes includes:
• providing device and environmental information, which has been acquired from the device and/or the environment at least in part by sensors of the mobile device,
• creating a dataset based on the device and environmental information, and
• providing the dataset for use for the localization and/or navigation of the mobile device;
• checking, during each of the localization processes, whether there is an error;
• determining each dataset of the provided datasets whose localization process contained an error to be a potentially erroneous dataset;
• determining each dataset of the provided datasets whose localization process did not contain an error to be a correct dataset;
• and
• when a correct dataset is obtained after a potentially erroneous dataset is obtained:
• checking the potentially erroneous dataset to see whether the potentially erroneous dataset will be used further or not.

A system, comprising:

• a data processor configured for error handling during navigation of a mobile device, wherein the mobile device moves or is intended to move in an environment, while using SLAM-based localization, the data processor configured to perform the following steps including:
• repeatedly carrying out localization processes, wherein each of the localization processes includes:
• providing device and environmental information, which has been acquired from the device and/or the environment at least in part by sensors of the mobile device,
• creating a dataset based on the device and environmental information, and
• providing the dataset for use for the localization and/or navigation of the mobile device;
• checking, during each of the localization processes, whether there is an error;
• determining a dataset of the provided datasets whose localization process contained an error to be a potentially erroneous dataset;
• determining a dataset of the provided datasets whose localization process did not contain an error to be a correct dataset;
• and
• when a correct dataset is obtained after a potentially erroneous dataset is obtained:
• checking the potentially erroneous dataset to see whether the potentially erroneous dataset will be used further or not.

A mobile device, comprising:

• a system including a data processor configured for error handling during navigation of a mobile device, wherein the mobile device moves or is intended to move in an environment, while using SLAM-based localization, the data processor configured to perform the following steps including:
• repeatedly carrying out localization processes, wherein each of the localization processes includes:
• providing device and environmental information, which has been acquired from the device and/or the environment at least in part by sensors of the mobile device,
• creating a dataset based on the device and environmental information, and
• providing the dataset for use for the localization and/or navigation of the mobile device,
• checking, during each of the localization processes, whether there is an error,
• determining a dataset of the provided datasets whose localization process contained an error to be a potentially erroneous dataset,
• determining a dataset of the provided datasets whose localization process did not contain an error to be a correct dataset, and
• when a correct dataset is obtained after a potentially erroneous dataset is obtained:
• checking the potentially erroneous dataset to see whether the potentially erroneous dataset will be used further or not;
• wherein the mobile device is an at least partially automated vehicle, including:
• (i) a passenger transport vehicle or (ii) a goods transport vehicle or (iii) a robot or (iv) a household robot or (v) a cleaning robot or (vi) a floor-or street-cleaning device or (vii) a robot lawn mower or (viii) a drone.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium on which is stored a computer program for error handling during navigation of a mobile device, wherein the mobile device moves or is intended to move in an environment, while using SLAM-based localization, the computer program, when executed by a computer, causing the computer to perform the following steps comprising:

• repeatedly carrying out localization processes, wherein each of the localization processes includes:
• providing device and environmental information, which has been acquired from the device and/or the environment at least in part by sensors of the mobile device,
• creating a dataset based on the device and environmental information, and
• providing the dataset for use for the localization and/or navigation of the mobile device;
• checking, during each of the localization processes, whether there is an error;
• determining a dataset of the provided datasets whose localization process contained an error to be a potentially erroneous dataset;
• determining a dataset of the provided datasets whose localization process did not contain an error to be a correct dataset;
• and
• when a correct dataset is obtained after a potentially erroneous dataset is obtained:
• checking the potentially erroneous dataset to see whether the potentially erroneous dataset will be used further or not.
