System and method for centralized resource information management in a vehicle

A system for allocating resources in a vehicle, the system comprising:

• a primary electronic control unit (ECU) comprising a virtual machine (VM) and a type one hypervisor;
• and
• a plurality of secondary ECUs communicatively coupled to the primary ECU, each of the plurality of secondary ECUs comprises a physical resource;
• wherein the type one hypervisor is configured to:
• generate a virtual resource corresponding to a virtualization of a combination of the physical resources of the plurality of secondary ECUs;
• receive, from at least a portion of the plurality of secondary ECUs, tags and qualifiers of the associated physical resource;
• receive, from the virtual machine, a request for resources to execute an operation;
• determine, based on the tags and qualifiers, a portion of the virtual resource that can be allocated to the VM;
• and
• allocate the determined portion of the virtual resource to the VM.

A method for allocating resources in a vehicle comprising

• a primary electronic control unit (ECU) comprising a virtual machine (VM) and a type one hypervisor;
• and
• a plurality of secondary ECUs communicatively coupled to the primary ECU, each of the plurality of secondary ECUs comprises a physical resource;
• wherein the method comprises:
• generating, by the type one hypervisor, a virtual resource corresponding to a virtualization of a combination of the physical resources of the plurality of secondary ECUs;
• receiving, by the type one hypervisor, from at least a portion of the plurality of secondary ECUs, tags and qualifiers of the associated physical resource;
• receiving, by the type one hypervisor from the virtual machine, a request for resources to execute an operation;
• determining, by the type one hypervisor based on the tags and qualifiers, a portion of the virtual resource that can be allocated to the VM;
• and
• allocating, by the type one hypervisor, the determined portion of the virtual resource to the VM.
