Data extraction for provisioning of software documentation

A non-transitory machine-readable medium having instructions stored therein, which when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations for managing documentation for software used to provide computer-implemented services, the operations comprising:

• making an identification of an occurrence of a documentation generation event for the software;
• and
• based on the identification:
• identifying software development elements used to produce the software,
• obtaining classifications for portions of the software development elements,
• identifying, based on the classifications, at least one extraction process to obtain available content stored by the software development elements,
• performing the at least one extraction process to obtain the available content,
• identifying a structure based at least on the available content, and
• automatically generating the documentation using the structure and the available content.

A data processing system, comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory coupled to the processor to store instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause operations for managing documentation for software used to provide computer-implemented services to be performed, the operations comprising:
• making an identification of an occurrence of a documentation generation event for the software, and
• based on the identification:
• identifying software development elements used to produce the software;
• obtaining classifications for portions of the software development elements;
• identifying, based on the classifications, at least one extraction process to obtain available content stored by the software development elements;
• performing the at least one extraction process to obtain the available content;
• identifying a structure based at least on the available content;
• and
• automatically generating the documentation using the structure and the available content.
