Method and apparatus for representing data

A method of representing data, the method comprising:

• setting, as definable level structures, a plurality of levels comprising a plurality of individual levels by determining size ranges of target data having a fixed length;
• based on a quantization error for each individual level forming a corresponding level structure, encoding, for all of the definable level structures, an exponent of the target data, and the exponent distinguishes each individual level, of the plurality of individual levels, forming the corresponding level structure;
• and
• calculating a level error corresponding to each of all of the definable level structures, and generating, based on the level error, a table comprising a final level structure and an encoded exponent corresponding to the final level structure.

An electronic device comprising:

• at least one processor including processing circuitry;
• and
• a memory storing instructions,
• wherein the instructions, when executed by the at least one processor individually or collectively, cause the electronic device to:
• set, as definable level structures, a plurality of levels comprising a plurality of individual levels by determining size ranges of target data;
• encode, for all of the definable level structures, an exponent of the target data, and the exponent distinguishes each individual level, of the plurality of individual levels, forming a corresponding level structure of the plurality of level structures;
• determine, for all of the definable level structures, a first number of mantissa bits of the target data, the first number of mantissa bits corresponding to the each individual level forming the corresponding level structure;
• and
• calculate a level error corresponding to each of all of the definable level structures, and generating based on the level error, a table comprising a final level structure, an encoded exponent corresponding to the final level structure, and a second number of mantissa bits corresponding to the final level structure.
