Method for processing video frames with reduced application processor system involvement

A semiconductor device, comprising:

• an application processor subsystem comprising one or more processors for executing application software;
• an interrupt subsystem for handing interrupts;
• a video subsystem for preparing video frame data and storing it in a plurality of video frame buffers in a memory;
• and
• a display subsystem for processing and displaying video frame data that has been stored in the plurality of video frame buffers,
• wherein the display subsystem is configured to:
• receive a plurality of triggers to process a video frame;
• and
• in response to receiving each of the plurality of triggers, process the video frame without involvement of the application processor subsystem,
• wherein a first trigger of the plurality of triggers is generated by the application processor subsystem sent to the display subsystem via the interrupt subsystem, and subsequent triggers of the plurality of triggers are generated internally by the display subsystem.
