One or more aspects of the present disclosure relate to optimizing port selection in ongoing data migration between storage arrays. Embodiments probe eligible ports between source and target arrays to discover connectivity and build a graph representing port connectivity by modeling directors as super nodes containing port nodes. Using a constrained optimization model, the embodiments find minimum cost augmenting paths while maintaining path diversity across directors. The embodiments add ports to active migration sessions by pruning the graph to remove used edges and ineligible nodes. Enhanced capabilities include selecting multiple ports per director while preserving diversity, implementing asymmetric fan-in/fan-out configurations for arrays with different port densities, and providing flexible port-sharing options. The embodiments automatically discover and validate paths, manage port selection policies, and non-disruptively modify remote data facility groups to optimize bandwidth and redundancy during data migration.
