Emotive assistant with attention-based interaction capabilities

An electronic device configured to indicate a device state to a user via motion outputs, the electronic device comprising:

• a body structure;
• an actuation system configured to produce device motion;
• an input system comprising:
• an image capture system;
• and
• an audio input system;
• and
• a processing system operatively coupled to the input system and the actuation system and configured to:
• detect, from a user and with the input system, a request to initiate an interaction with the electronic device;
• and
• in response to detecting the request:
• select a device motion configured to indicate that the electronic device has received the request and that the electronic device has entered an interactive mode;
• and
• cause the actuation system to produce the selected device motion.

An electronic device configured to initiate an interactive mode in response to an attention cue from a user, the electronic device comprising:

• a body structure;
• an actuation system configured to produce device motion;
• an image capture system configured to capture an image of a user;
• and
• a processing system operatively coupled to the image capture system and the actuation system and configured to:
• detect, based on an analysis of the image of the user, an occurrence of an attention cue by the user;
• in response to detecting the occurrence of the attention cue, select a device motion configured to indicate that the electronic device has detected the attention cue and that the electronic device has entered an interactive mode;
• and
• cause the actuation system to produce the selected device motion.
