Abstract
A user may interact and select positions in three-dimensional space arbitrarily through conversion of a two-dimensional positional input into a three-dimensional point in space. The system may allow a user to use one or more user input devices for pointing, annotating, or drawing on virtual objects, real objects or empty space in reference to the location of the three-dimensional point in space within an augmented reality or mixed reality session.
Claims15
A system comprising:
- a wearable display device;
- one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media having program instructions embodied therewith;
- and
- one or more processors configured to execute the program instructions to cause the system to:
- determine pose information of the wearable display device associated with a user;
- determine a viewing direction based at least in part on the pose information;
- determine a cursor position associated with the viewing direction, including:
- determining a first position component based on an intersection of the viewing direction with a first surface;
- and
- determining a second position component based on a geometric relationship between the viewing direction and at least one of:
- (i) a three-dimensional representation of an environment, or (ii) a second surface;
- determine a three-dimensional position based on the first position component and the second position component;
- and
- cause display of a virtual object at the three-dimensional position via the wearable display device.
