Semiconductor devices with photonic interconnect platforms and crossbar switches

A device comprising:

• a photonic circuit layer comprising (i) a first surface, (ii) a second surface opposite the first surface, (iii) waveguides, and (v) photonic portions of electro-optical transceivers;
• an electronic circuit layer comprising a plurality of electronic integrated circuits (EICs) tiled together, wherein each EIC comprises (i) a plurality of computing components, (ii) a first surface, (iii) a second surface opposite the first surface, (iv) electrical portions of electro-optical transceivers, and (v) electrical channels, wherein the second surface of each EIC is attached to the first surface of the photonic circuit layer;
• and
• a crossbar switch comprising interconnects that electrically couple each EIC with each other adjacent EIC that is adjacent to the EIC, wherein the interconnects comprise a set of bumps between the electronic circuit layer and the photonic circuit layer, wherein:
• for each pair of adjacent EICs, a first subset of the set of bumps are arranged on the second surface of a first EIC of the pair of adjacent EICs and a second subset of the set of bumps are arranged on the second surface of the second EIC of the pair of adjacent EICs,
• the first subset of bumps and the second subset of bumps are arranged along a boundary between the first EIC and the second EIC, and
• a third subset of the set of bumps electrically couple the electrical portion of each electro-optical transceiver to the photonic portion of the electro-optical transceiver.
