Rotating Beam Switch

An optical steering apparatus, comprising:

• a collimating optical module adapted to generate an optical beam along a first axis;
• a plurality of receiving optical modules adapted to receive the optical beam from the collimating optical module;
• a prism disposed between the collimating optical module and the plurality of receiving optical modules, wherein the prism receives the optical beam from the collimating optical module, wherein the prism refracts the optical beam, wherein the prism directs the optical beam to at least one of the plurality of receiving optical modules, and wherein the optical beam from the collimating optical module passes through the prism;
• a rotation stage including a base and a rotating section, wherein the rotating section rotates, relative to the base, about a second axis, wherein the prism is mounted to the rotating section and rotates about the second axis;
• and
• circuitry to rotate the rotating section to a rotational position from among a plurality of rotational positions, wherein each of the plurality of rotational positions corresponds to one of the plurality of receiving optical modules,
• wherein the prism guides the optical beam to the at least one of the plurality of receiving optical modules based on the rotational position of the rotating section.
