Abstract
Techniques pertaining to joint subframe and bit synchronization of data signals in satellite and mobile communications are described. An apparatus (e.g., a user equipment) receives a signal (e.g., a GNSS signal) and detects the transmitted data symbols in the signal. The apparatus then computes a subframe hypothesis test correlation including the sync word correlation and the bit correlations. The apparatus also synchronizes the data subframe and bit timing.

A method, comprising:
- receiving, by a processor of a user equipment, a signal;
- detecting, by the processor, data symbols of a data subframe in the signal;
- computing, by the processor, a hypothesis correlation including subframe sync and bit sync correlations;
- and
- synchronizing, by the processor, the data subframe and bit timing.
