An assembly for an aircraft propulsion system includes a battery, an electrical distribution system, a battery cell voltage sensor, and a controller. The battery includes a plurality of battery cells. The electrical distribution system is operable to electrically interconnect the battery with a charging power source. The battery cell voltage sensor is operable to measure a cell voltage of a first battery cell of the plurality of battery cells. The controller is connected in signal communication with the battery cell voltage sensor and the HVPDU. The controller configured to execute a charging sequence for the battery, determine a change in cell voltage of the first battery cell, determine a test cell resistance of the first battery cell, determine a change in resistance of the first battery cell, and identify a presence or an absence of an end-of-life condition of the first battery cell.
