Abstract

Systems and methods for filtering debris from an ultrasonic image of an ultrasonic imaging system. Methods may include receiving an ultrasonic image of a plurality of ultrasonic images, determining a zone of the ultrasonic image, applying a mask to the zone of the ultrasonic image, wherein the mask is applied to the zone for a first number of iterations, determining a level of noise in the ultrasonic image, determining, based on the level of noise, that additional noise suppression is needed, applying the mask to the zone of the ultrasonic image, wherein the mask is applied to the zone for a second number of iterations, and displaying the ultrasonic image on a display.

Dependent claims

An ultrasound imaging system configured for digitally filtering debris from an ultrasonic image, comprising:

an ultrasonic probe comprising an ultrasound imaging transducer configured for imaging a tissue region;
a display coupled to the ultrasonic probe;
and
a processor coupled to the ultrasonic probe and configured to:
receive a frame of an ultrasonic image from the ultrasound imaging transducer;
apply a first mask to the frame to produce a difference frame, determine an absolute difference between the frame and the frame with the first mask applied;
apply an edge detection filter to the difference frame;
determine an average intensity of the difference frame, wherein the average intensity corresponds to an estimated level of remaining noise within the frame;
apply, based on the estimated level of remaining noise, a second mask to the frame to produce a noise suppressed frame;
and
send a signal to display the noise suppressed frame on the display.
