Abstract
A computerized method for determining a value of at least one characteristic of a structure having a buried portion and a non-buried portion, the method comprising the steps of: impacting the structure on a lateral side of the non-buried portion to cause an excitation within the structure; acquiring an excitation response signal with a receiver placed on the lateral side of the non-buried portion and generating excitation response data; determining a resonance number and a resonance frequency from the excitation response data; performing an inversion process based on guided wave theory and a genetic algorithm to determine the value of the at least one characteristic of the structure.
Claims22
A computerized method for determining a value of at least one characteristic of a structure having a buried portion and a non-buried portion, the method comprising the steps of:
- impacting the structure on a lateral side of the non-buried portion to cause an excitation within the structure;
- acquiring an excitation response signal with a receiver placed on the lateral side of the non-buried portion and generating excitation response data;
- determining a resonance number and a resonance frequency from the excitation response data;
- performing an inversion process based on guided wave theory and a genetic algorithm to determine the value of the at least one characteristic of the structure.
A system for determining a value of at least one characteristic of a structure having a buried portion and a non-buried portion, the method comprising the steps of:
- an excitation source caused to generate an excitation within the structure by applying a force on a lateral side of the non-buried portion of the structure;
- one signal receiver placed on the lateral side of the non-buried portion of the structure, wherein the signal receiver acquires a response signal resulting from the excitation;
- an apparatus for receiving the response signal, wherein the apparatus includes a processor, a memory for storing instructions executable by the processor to at least:
- convert the response signal into response data;
- determine a resonance number and a resonance frequency from the response data;
- and
- perform an inversion process based on guided wave theory and a genetic algorithm to determine the value of the at least one characteristic of the structure.
A computerized method of determining a value of at least one characteristic of a structure having a buried portion and a non-buried portion by applying at least one non-destructive testing (NDT) modality to the structure, the method comprising the steps of:
- receiving excitation response data, wherein excitation response data is derived from a response signal acquired from one signal receiver placed on a lateral side of the non-buried portion, and wherein an excitation within the structure is caused by an excitation source placed on a lateral side of the non-buried portion;
- determining a resonance number and a resonance frequency from the excitation response data;
- performing an inversion process based on guided wave theory and a genetic algorithm to determine the value of the at least one characteristic of the structure.
