Abstract
A method for intraoperative assessment of a tumor resection margin in a tissue sample obtained from a patient undergoing surgery for removal of a solid tumor is comprising the steps of: (a) fixing and slicing the tissue sample to provide a flat fixed tissue sample of 0.5-9 mm thickness, wherein the fixing is dehydration for less than 60 minutes in a liquid comprising acetone; and (b) subjecting the flat fixed tissue sample from step (a) to phase-contrast X-ray imaging to generate multiple X-ray projections. (c) obtaining a 3D image of the flat fixed tissue samples by phase-contrast computed tomography (PC-CT) using the X-ray projections obtained in step (b).
