Abstract

The present disclosure relates to drug detection devices and methods for the rapid detection of target analytes and drugs, such as opioid-containing substances, on surfaces and more specifically to drug detection devices formed with substrates including drug-detecting compositions for providing an indication of the presence of opioid-containing substances and/or other drugs contacted by the substrate. The drug-detecting compositions include one or more color-changing ingredients that produce a variable visible color change upon exposure to various target analytes, a surfactant and a polysaccharide. The color change occurs at least primarily on the substrate due to the presence in the drug-detecting composition of the surfactant and the polysaccharide that effectively binds the color-changing ingredient(s) to the substrate.
