A pipeline inspection method and system using simultaneous or virtually simultaneous electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) and transverse field inspection (TFI) measurement modes is disclosed herein. The pipeline inspection method and system are configured to perform an EMAT measurement process and a TFL measurement process in a single traversal of a pipeline and to identify pipeline features of interest for a pipeline inspection. A shared magnetizer provides a static magnetic field for both the EMAT measurement process and the TFI measurement process. Individual EMAT and TFI samples are sequenced in time, with an individual sample of either mode being executed in a duration on an order of milliseconds or tens of milliseconds. EMAT and TFI measurement sensors are placed in an angularly-staggered and axially-staggered fashion on a pipeline inspection gauge (PIG) to achieve full coverage of an interior surface of a pipeline wall.
