The present disclosure describes systems and methods for localizing and positioning one or more sets of 3D data points in the deployment of solar panels. In an aspect, the present disclosure provides a mobile platform comprising a measurement object and a position sensor, and a 3D survey apparatus configured to acquire a first set of 3D data points of the measurement object, wherein the position sensor is configured to acquire a second set of 3D data points at a different location relative to the 3D survey apparatus, and a processor in communication with the 3D survey apparatus and the position sensor, configured to estimate, utilizing an optimization algorithm, a pose of the 3D survey apparatus based at least in part on a difference between the first set of 3D data points and the second set of 3D data points.
