Magnetic sensor system and position detection device

A position detection device for detecting a position of a target object whose position is variable, the position detection device comprising:

• a magnetic sensor system including a magnetic field generating body configured to generate a target magnetic field and a magnetic sensor configured to detect the target magnetic field at a detection position;
• and
• the target object, wherein
• the magnetic field generating body and the magnetic sensor are arrayed in a first direction, and are configured so that a relative position of the magnetic field generating body with respect to the magnetic sensor varies in a second direction intersecting with the first direction,
• the relative position of the magnetic field generating body with respect to the magnetic sensor has a correspondence with the target object,
• as viewed in the first direction, the detection position is a position overlapping with the magnetic field generating body, and is a position away from both ends of the magnetic field generating body in a third direction intersecting with each of the first direction and the second direction,
• the magnetic field generating body is configured so that the target magnetic field includes a component in the third direction at the detection position, and
• the magnetic sensor has sensitivity in the third direction.
