Abstract
A thermostat receives at least one sensor a first data and determines an energy cost for running each of a plurality of heating, ventilation, and cooling (HVAC) elements. The first data and the determined energy cost is used to set an actual air temperature set point for the thermostat and to select a subset of the plurality of HVAC elements to operate in order to attain both a desired “feels like” temperature and a maximized cost savings. The thermostat then controls a heating system or an air conditioning system according to the set set point and controls the selected subset of the plurality of HVAC elements until the “feels like” temperature is attained.
Claims9
A method, performed by a thermostat, comprising:
- receiving from at least one sensor a first data;
- determining an energy cost for running each of a plurality of heating, ventilation, and cooling (HVAC) elements;
- using the first data and the determined energy cost for running each of the plurality of HVAC elements to set an actual air temperature set point for the thermostat and to select a subset of the plurality of HVAC elements to operate in order to attain both a desired “feels like” temperature and a maximized cost savings;
- and
- controlling a heating system or an air conditioning system according to the set set point and controlling the selected subset of the plurality of HVAC elements until the “feels like” temperature is attained.
