Abstract
An incubator includes a flow conditioner that produces a composite air veil in which adjacent sections and outer sections relative to static ambient air have a flow velocity difference that is below a shear force velocity difference. Advantageously, such air veils have improved stability and can even be operated at velocities that would otherwise lead to significant turbulence.
Claims20
An incubator, comprising:
- a housing enclosing an internal container, wherein the housing and the internal container have an opening configured to allow access to an inside of the internal container;
- a flow conditioner coupled to the housing and/or internal container and configured to form a composite air veil across the opening;
- wherein the composite air veil has a thickness and a velocity gradient across the thickness;
- and
- wherein a flow velocity difference between two adjacent sections within the thickness is below a shear force velocity difference.
A method of maintaining an atmospheric condition within an incubator having a housing that encloses an internal container, wherein the housing and the internal container have a door covering an opening that allows access to an inside of the internal container, the method comprising:
- operating a flow conditioner when the door is in an open position, wherein the flow conditioner forms a composite air veil moving across the opening;
- wherein the composite air veil has a thickness and a velocity gradient across the thickness;
- and
- wherein a flow velocity difference between two adjacent sections within the thickness is below a shear force velocity difference.
