System and method of low-frequency brake noise mitigation

A vehicle braking system operable for mitigating brake noise, the vehicle braking system comprising:

• at least one disc brake including:
• a brake caliper;
• a pair of brake pads arranged within the brake caliper;
• and
• a brake rotor arranged within the pair of brake pads;
• and
• a brake control system in communication with the at least one disc brake;
• and
• a controller in communication with the brake control system, the controller configured to:
• receive a steering angle;
• determine whether a vehicle speed is less than or greater than a pre-determined vehicle speed;
• determine a vehicle grade when the vehicle speed is determined to be less than the pre-determined vehicle speed;
• implement a first brake noise mitigation strategy that includes adjusting a brake pressure when it is determined that the vehicle grade is less than the pre-determined vehicle grade, wherein the first brake noise mitigation strategy is a pre-defined brake noise strategy that is pre-defined during an initial vehicle calibration;
• and
• implement a second brake noise mitigation strategy that includes adjusting a brake pressure when it is determined that the vehicle grade is greater than the pre-determined vehicle grade.

A vehicle operable for mitigating brake noise, comprising:

• a vehicle body;
• a powertrain arranged within the vehicle body, the powertrain configured to generate a torque for propulsion of the vehicle;
• a pair of front wheels arranged adjacent to a front end of the vehicle;
• a pair of rear wheels arranged adjacent to a rear end of the vehicle;
• a brake noise mitigation system comprising:
• a pair of disc brakes, wherein one of the pair of disc brakes is arranged adjacent to one of the pair of front wheels, and the other of the pair of disc brakes arranged adjacent the other of the pair of front wheels, respectively, wherein each of the pair of disc brakes includes:
• a brake caliper;
• a pair of brake pads arranged within the brake caliper;
• and
• a brake rotor arranged within the pair of brake pads;
• and
• a brake control system in communication with the pair of disc brakes;
• and
• a controller in communication with the brake control system, the controller configured to:
• receive a steering angle;
• determine whether a vehicle speed is less than or greater than a pre-determined vehicle speed;
• determine a vehicle grade when the vehicle speed is determined to be less than the pre-determined vehicle speed;
• implement a first brake noise mitigation strategy that includes adjusting a brake pressure when it is determined that the vehicle grade is less than the pre-determined vehicle grade, wherein the first brake noise mitigation strategy is a pre-defined brake noise mitigation strategy that is pre-defined during an initial vehicle calibration;
• and
• implement a second brake noise mitigation strategy that includes adjusting a brake pressure when it is determined that the vehicle grade is greater than the pre-determined vehicle grade, wherein the second brake noise strategy includes removing a first brake pressure on a first axle and increasing a second brake pressure on a second axle.
