A full floating axle for an automotive vehicle includes an axle tube, a wheel hub rotationally supported on the axle tube, an axle shaft extended through the axle tube, and an end plate mounted to the axle shaft and the wheel hub. The end plate transmits torque between the axle shaft and the wheel hub when connected. The end plate is disconnectable from the axle shaft and the wheel hub and connectable back onto the wheel hub in a service disconnect mode, such that torque is not transmitted between the wheel hub and the axle shaft. An engaging support feature between the axle shaft and the axle tube has a connected state and a disconnected state. In the connected state, the engaging support feature provides support between the axle shaft and the axle tube. In the disconnected state, there is no contact between the axle shaft and the axle tube.
