Abstract
A bearing device includes a bearing having first and second rings, a bushing, and an electrically insulating insert overmolded between the bushing and the second bearing ring. The bushing is formed from two cylindrical parts that meet at a joint, and a radial thickness of the bushing in a joint zone on either side of the joint is less than a radial thickness of the cylindrical parts outside the joint zone such that a groove is formed in the bushing in the joint zone on a side of the bushing opposite the electrically insulating insert.
Claims11
A bearing device comprising:
- a bearing including a first ring and a second ring configured to rotate relative to each other about a central axis, the second ring having a first cylindrical surface and a second cylindrical surface radially spaced from the first cylindrical surface,
- a bushing, and
- an electrically insulating insert overmolded between and connecting the bushing and the second cylindrical surface of the second ring,
- wherein the bushing comprises a first part having an axially extending first cylindrical portion having a radial thickness from a first surface to a second surface radially spaced from the first surface and a first front face at a first axial end of the first cylindrical portion and the bushing comprises a second part having an axially extending second cylindrical portion having a radial thickness from a first surface to a second surface radially spaced from the first surface of the second cylindrical portion and a second front face at a second axial end of the second cylindrical portion, the second front face being in axial contact with the first front face at a joint,
- wherein the electrically insulating insert extends from the first cylindrical surface of the first part to the second cylindrical surface of the second ring and from the first cylindrical surface of the second part to the second cylindrical surface of the second ring, and
- wherein the radial thickness of the bushing at the joint is less than a radial thickness of the first cylindrical portion of the first part of the bushing at a first location spaced from the joint and less than a radial thickness of the second cylindrical portion of the second part of the bushing at a second location spaced from the joint such that a groove is formed in the bushing in a joint zone on either side of the joint on a side of the bushing opposite the electrically insulating insert.
3 more elements
A method for manufacturing a bearing device comprising:
- fitting a first part of a bushing having a profiled axial end in a bottom of a manufacturing mold,
- placing a first bearing ring inside the manufacturing mold,
- fitting a second part of the bushing having a profiled axial end inside the manufacturing mold with the profiled axial end of the first part of the bushing in contact with the profiled axial end of the second part of the bushing,
- overmolding an insulating liner onto the first bearing ring and the first part of the bushing and the second part of the bushing,
- allowing the insulating liner to cure,
- extracting a unitary assembly formed by the first bearing ring, the first and second parts of the bushing and the insulating liner from the manufacturing mold, and
- installing the unitary assembly to a second bearing ring.
