A screw spindle pump including a spindle housing with a spindle pack having a drive spindle and a running spindle meshing therewith. The spindle pack conveys a fluid from a suction side at a suction pressure to a pressure side at an increased outlet pressure. A thrust compensation device, having an aperture assigned to the running spindle, is disposed on the suction side on the housing and has a bore that opens out adjacent to an end face of the running spindle. The aperture is supplied a fluid which, compared to the suction pressure, is under an increased pressure and via the bore presses against the end face of the running spindle to build up a supporting pressure. The fluid channel communicates with the interior of the spindle housing at the pressure side and runs through the spindle housing to the aperture. Upstream of the mouth is a particle separator that separates particles of the same or a larger size than the diameter of the bore of the aperture.
