Abstract
An electric machine for a gas turbine engine has a rotor, an electric machine drive shaft, a stator, and a clutch assembly. The rotor has a rotor core that is rotatable about a rotational axis. The stator has a stator core and a set of windings. The clutch assembly has an engagement body, a set of clutch teeth, and a clutch plate. The engagement body transfers a torque from the electric machine drive shaft to an external drive shaft that is exterior the electric machine.
Claims20
An electric machine for a gas turbine engine, the electric machine comprising:
- a rotor rotatable about a rotational axis;
- an electric machine drive shaft rotationally driven by the rotor;
- a stator having a stator core and a set of windings, the stator core extending axially, with respect to the rotational axis, between a first stator end and a second stator end;
- and
- a clutch assembly comprising:
- an engagement body provided with the electric machine drive shaft, the engagement body defining a rotational output of the electric machine;
- a set of clutch teeth located along the first stator end;
- and
- a clutch plate coupled to the electric machine drive shaft, the clutch plate being moveable between a first position defining a disengaged position of the clutch assembly, and a second position defining an engaged position of the clutch assembly where the engagement body transfers a torque from the electric machine drive shaft to an external drive shaft that is exterior the electric machine, with a movement of the clutch plate being based on a magnetic flux generated by the set of windings.
A clutch assembly for an electric machine having a rotor rotatable about a rotational axis, an electric machine drive shaft rotationally driven by the rotor, and a stator extending between a first stator end and a second stator end, the electric machine being used with a turbine engine, the clutch assembly comprising:
- an engagement body provided with the electric machine drive shaft, the engagement body defining a rotational output of the electric machine;
- a set of clutch teeth located along the first stator end;
- and
- a clutch plate coupled to the electric machine drive shaft, the clutch plate being moveable between a first position defining a disengaged position of the clutch assembly, and a second position defining an engaged position of the clutch assembly where the engagement body transfers a torque from the electric machine drive shaft to an external drive shaft that is exterior the electric machine, with a movement of the clutch plate being based on a magnetic flux generated by the set of windings.
