A cam phaser comprises a housing and a rotor. The rotor is arranged in the housing and is designed to be rotated within the housing. The rotor comprises a hub and a plurality of vanes protruding from the hub. The plurality of vanes are disposed to move within respective chambers formed by the rotor and the housing, wherein each vane divides each respective chamber into an advance chamber and a retard chamber. Each vane comprises a vane seal element and a seal spring which are arranged in a vane groove at the end of the respective vane, wherein the seal spring biases the vane seal element towards an inner surface of the housing. An element made of a plastic material, which is preferably made of polyether ether ketone (PEEK), is arranged within each vane groove between the bottom of the respective vane groove and the respective seal spring.
