Abstract
An untethered logging device includes a main body, a sensing and control system coupled to the main body and configured to autonomously collect first data during a wellbore logging operation, and one or more caliper fingers connected to the main body and configured to autonomously collect second data while the sensing and control system collects first data, wherein the one or more caliper fingers are further configured to separate from the main body within a wellbore to increase a buoyancy of a remaining portion of the untethered logging device.
Claims20
An untethered logging device comprising:
- a main body;
- a sensing and control system coupled to the main body and configured to autonomously collect first data during a wellbore logging operation;
- and
- one or more caliper fingers connected to the main body and configured to autonomously collect second data while the sensing and control system collects first data,
- wherein the one or more caliper fingers are further configured to separate from the main body within a wellbore to increase a buoyancy of a remaining portion of the untethered logging device.
A method of logging a wellbore, the method comprising:
- flowing an untethered logging device in a downhole direction through a wellbore fluid within the wellbore;
- autonomously collecting first data at a sensing and control system of the untethered logging device that is coupled to a main body of the untethered logging device;
- while the first data is collected at the sensing and control system, autonomously collecting second data at one or more caliper fingers of the untethered logging device that are connected to the main body;
- separating at least one caliper finger of the one or more caliper fingers from the main body at a downhole target position within the wellbore to increase a buoyancy of a remaining portion of the untethered logging device;
- and
- flowing the remaining portion of the untethered logging device in an uphole direction through the wellbore fluid to a surface above the wellbore.
