Abstract

Systems and methods for autonomous wellbore placement are provided. A method includes: collecting surface and downhole data from a well at a wellsite, determining a trajectory control plan for a drilling operation for a drilling tool in the well based on the collected surface and downhole data, performing a proximity analysis and projecting a future path of the drilling tool in the well, determining whether there is a Zone of Exclusion (ZOE) in or near the wellsite, when it is determined that there is a ZOE, then determining whether the ZOE can be avoided, when it is determined that the at least one ZOE cannot be avoided, then determining whether a gyroscopic mode is available, and when it is determined that the gyroscopic mode is available for the drilling tool, then: activating the gyroscopic mode, and continuing the drilling operation with the drilling tool into the ZOE.

Dependent claims

A method, comprising:

collecting surface and downhole data from a well at a wellsite;
determining a trajectory control plan for a drilling operation for a drilling tool in the well based on the collected surface and downhole data;
performing a proximity analysis and projecting a future path of the drilling tool in the well;
determining whether there is a Zone of Exclusion (ZOE) in or near the wellsite;
when it is determined that there is a ZOE in or near the wellsite, then determining whether the ZOE can be avoided;
when it is determined that the at least one ZOE cannot be avoided, then determining whether a gyroscopic mode is available for the drilling tool;
and
when it is determined that the gyroscopic mode is available for the drilling tool, then:
activating the gyroscopic mode;
and
continuing the drilling operation with the drilling tool into the ZOE.

a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to:
collect surface and downhole data from a well at a wellsite;
