Disclosed herein are systems that can dynamically and independently control the amount (or intensity), the spectrum (or wavelength), and/or the angle (or dispersion) of a beam of transmitted light and/or thermal radiation, conduction, and/or convection using fluids. In some embodiments, the present disclosure describes systems capable of universally controlling light and/or thermal radiation. In some embodiments, disclosed herein are systems that can orthogonally manipulate the intensity, spectrum, direction and/ or distribution of a beam of light using fluids. In some embodiments, disclosed herein are systems that can tune optical transmission and thermal conduction orthogonally using fluids. In some embodiments, disclosed herein is a system that can simultaneously control visible and thermal radiation or visible, thermal and near-IR radiation using fluids. In some embodiments, disclosed herein are systems that can dynamically control radiative, conductive, and convective heat exchange using fluids.
