Abstract
Vehicle door actuation is provided. A system includes an actuator to couple a first linkage of a door latch mechanism with a second linkage of an interior release handle. The actuator includes a motor to actuate the actuator to decouple the first linkage from the second linkage responsive to a receipt of a first instruction to prevent internal operation of the vehicle door. The system can actuate, responsive to receipt of a second instruction, the actuator to couple the first linkage with the second linkage to couple the interior release handle with the door latch mechanism to permit internal operation of the vehicle door.
Claims20
A system to operate a vehicle door, comprising:
- an actuator to couple a second linkage of a door latch mechanism with a first linkage of an interior release handle, the actuator including a motor to:
- actuate the actuator to decouple the second linkage from the first linkage responsive to a receipt of a first instruction to prevent internal operation of the vehicle door;
- and
- actuate, responsive to receipt of a second instruction, the actuator to couple the second linkage with the first linkage to couple the interior release handle with the door latch mechanism to permit internal operation of the vehicle door wherein the actuator comprises:
- a first member comprising an inner sidewall defining an axial opening extending along a first direction to receive a second member and a protrusion extending from the inner sidewall;
- and
- the second member comprising a channel in an outer surface of a cylindrical portion to receive the protrusion, the channel comprising a first portion extending along the first direction and a second portion extending circumferentially about the cylindrical portion.

A method of door operation for a vehicle, comprising:
- actuating, responsive to a receipt of an instruction, an actuator to couple a first linkage coupled with a second linkage to couple an interior release handle with a door latch mechanism to permit internal operation of the door wherein the actuator comprises:
- a first member comprising an inner sidewall defining an axial opening extending along a first direction to receive a second member and a protrusion extending from the inner sidewall;
- and
- the second member comprising a channel in an outer surface of a cylindrical portion to receive the protrusion, the channel comprising a first portion extending along the first direction and a second portion extending circumferentially about the cylindrical portion.

An electric vehicle comprising:
- a door comprising:
- a door latch mechanism to latch the door closed, the door latch mechanism coupled with a second linkage;
- an interior release handle coupled with a first linkage;
- and
- an actuator to couple the second linkage with the first linkage, the actuator including a motor to:
- actuate the actuator to decouple the second linkage from the first linkage responsive to a receipt of a first instruction to prevent internal operation of the door;
- and
- actuate the actuator to couple the second linkage with the first linkage responsive to a receipt of a second instruction to permit internal operation of the door wherein the actuator comprises:
- a first member to receive a first end of the second linkage, the first member comprising a body having a cylindrical portion extending along a first direction;
- and
- a second member overlapping with the first member along the first direction to, at a first end of the second member:
- according to a first radial position between the first member and the second member, arrest a movement between the first member and the second member along the first direction according to an interference between a protrusion of one of the first member or the second member with a sidewall of a channel of the other of the first member or the second member;
- and
- according to second radial position between the first member and the second member, allow telescopic movement of one of the first member or the second member into the other of the first member or the second member.
