Abstract
An adjustable bridging assembly includes a C-shaped outer member and a U-shaped inner member. Each member includes a web between a pair of opposing side flanges and a connecting flange orthogonal to the web. The web of the inner member is dimensioned to slide between the pair of flanges of the outer member such that sliding of the inner member alters an effective bridging length of the bridging assembly.
Claims20
A bridging assembly for connecting adjacent studs in a cold-formed steel (CFS) frame, comprising:
- a C-shaped outer member and a U-shaped inner member, each including:
- a web between a pair of opposing side flanges, and
- a connecting flange orthogonal to the web;
- wherein the web of the inner member is dimensioned to slide between the pair of flanges of the outer member such that sliding of the inner member alters an effective bridging length of the bridging assembly.
A method of installing a bridging assembly between adjacent studs in a cold-formed steel (CFS) frame, comprising:
- positioning a bridging assembly between first and second studs;
- fastening a first sheet member of the assembly to the first stud;
- expanding the assembly to match a spacing between the first and second studs;
- fastening a second sheet member of the assembly to the second stud;
- and
- fastening the first and second sheet members together.
