A nanoporous foam is produced by a process comprising preparing an aqueous electrolyte comprising metal salts of at least four different metal elements selected from iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, and manganese, wherein the aqueous electrolyte further comprises glycerol, positioning a porous template in contact with the aqueous electrolyte, applying a deposition potential to electrochemically deposit a high entropy alloy into pores of the porous template to form nanowires, wherein the high entropy alloy comprises at least four different metal elements each at a concentration between 5 and 35 atomic percent, removing the nanowires from the porous template, and assembling the nanowires into a three-dimensional porous structure to form the nanoporous foam.
