Abstract
The present disclosure relates to the process of converting raw bagasse into processed bagasse fiber. In the process a raw bagasse is chopped into pieces. The chopped bagasse pieces are washed with water. The bagasse pieces are soaked and heated in water to remove wax. The bagasse pieces are treated with hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide-treated bagasse pieces are again washed. The washed hydrogen peroxide bagasse pieces are treated with alkali. The treated alkali bagasse pieces are dried in a multi-stage drying and moisture is removed. The dried bagasse pieces are pulverized. The pulverized bagasse pieces are sieved to obtain fiber having size up to 707 microns. The processed bagasse can be further used for bio-methanation.
Claims12
A process for converting a raw bagasse into processed bagasse fiber, said process comprising a following step:
- i. chopping the raw bagasse into raw bagasse pieces;
- ii. washing the chopped bagasse pieces;
- iii. soaking and heating the washed bagasse pieces to remove wax from the bagasse pieces;
- iv. treating the bagasse pieces with hydrogen peroxide;
- v. washing the hydrogen peroxide treated bagasse pieces;
- vi. treating the washed hydrogen peroxide treated bagasse pieces with alkali;
- vii. multi-stage drying of the alkali treated bagasse pieces to remove the moisture from the bagasse pieces and obtained dried treated bagasse pieces;
- and
- viii. pulverizing the dried bagasse pieces and sieving the pulverized bagasse pieces to obtain processed bagasse fiber having size up to 707 microns;
Treated and processed bagasse fibers having size of less than or equal to 707 microns for use in bio-methanation.
