A process for producing linear alpha olefins utilizing a supercritical water unit may comprise phenylating a free fatty acid stream with an aromatics stream in the presence of a Lewis Acid catalyst, thereby forming a phenylated free fatty acid stream; deoxygenating the phenylated free fatty acid stream to form an alkylaromatic stream; introducing water and the alkylaromatic stream to a supercritical water unit, wherein the water is either at supercritical conditions prior to entering the supercritical water unit or converted to supercritical conditions within the supercritical water unit; and converting the alkylaromatic stream with the water within the supercritical water unit, thereby forming a linear alpha olefin-containing product.
