Abstract
Processes, reactors, and systems for converting waste plastic feedstock into liquid and gaseous products suitable for use in either fluid catalytic cracking or steam cracking to produce ethylene and propylene are described.
Claims16
A process for converting waste plastic into a lower boiling hydrocarbon stream, the process comprising:
- (a) heating a molten salt composition by contacting a heated flue gas with the molten salt composition to produce a heated molten salt composition;
- and
- (b) contacting a waste plastic feed stream with the heated molten salt composition and a metal catalyst being a micron-sized molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) composition at a temperature from 300° C. to 700° C. and a pressure up to 500 psig (3.4 MPa) to produce a hydrocarbon product stream comprising hydrocarbons having 1 to 50 carbon atoms, and wherein the hydrocarbon product stream comprises liquid hydrocarbons having final boiling point of 500° C. or less, gaseous hydrocarbons, or a mixture thereof, wherein the hydrocarbon product stream has a lower boiling point than the waste plastic feed stream, and wherein the heated flue gas aids in removal of the product stream from the heated molten salt composition.
