Dialkylated metallocene catalysts for ethylene polymerization

Abstract

Catalyst compositions can be prepared from a metallocene solution comprising from 10 to 70 wt. % of a dihydrocarbyl metallocene compound in a first aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent by adding an amount of a second aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent to the metallocene solution to form a dilute solution comprising from 0.1 to 10 wt. % of the dihydrocarbyl metallocene compound, followed by contacting, in any order, the dilute solution, an activator-support, and an organoaluminum compound to form the catalyst composition. Catalyst compositions comprising the metallocene solutions are also disclosed, as well as polymerization processes using the catalyst compositions to produce polymer products that are similar to the polymer products produced using non-alkylated metallocene compound analogs. Films produced from the polymer products demonstrate exceptionally low haze and improved strength characteristics.
