Abstract
A process manufactures polyisobutene by condensation of methanol and a second alcohol in the gas phase yielding an isobutanol-containing reaction mixture, dehydrating isobutanol to isobutene, followed by polymerization of the thus obtained isobutene to polyisobutene.

A process for manufacturing of polyisobutene, comprising:
- condensation of methanol and a second alcohol in the gas phase yielding an isobutanol-containing reaction mixture,
- dehydrating isobutanol to isobutene,
- followed by polymerization of the thus obtained isobutene to polyisobutene.
